A Glimpse at the Life of Rubye Nell Lovely Williams

Rubye Nell Lovely was born on September 14, 1944, in Marshall, Texas to the parentage of Reed and Carrie Lovely.

Nell (as she was often called) accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Canaan Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas under the auspices of Rev. Holiday.

Nell attended H.B Pemberton High School in Marshall, TX and graduated in the class of 1961. She proceeded to enroll in the Hurd Business School and upon completion she relocated to Dallas, Texas.

While in Dallas in the early 70’s she met and married the love of her life, Fred Williams, and to this union one child was born, Hope Williams-Bowie.

Also in the 70’s Nell and her devoted husband joined the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church located in the Historic Dallas community of Joppa under the leadership of Pastor Paul H. Coumpy. She served in many capacities including President of the Senior Choir for 23 years, Deaconess, member of the Mission Society and also volunteered with Vacation Bible School every year. Around 5 years ago they became Charter Members of the Greater Garden Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Alfred Cox.

Nell was a talented woman of many interests. She was a prolific poet, penning hundreds of poems throughout the years. She was also an animal lover and an avid shopper. No one could find a deal like Nell.

Rubye Nell Williams departed this life on September 18th, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reed and Carrie Lovely and one child, Tara Nicole Hilton who passed away at 22 months. Nell was the youngest of fourteen siblings and twelve of them preceded her in death: Verlene, Josephine, Rosie Mae, Ceola, Alice, Alcapus, R.C, Louis, Walter, Claude, Odis and Early.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted Husband of 49 years, Fred Williams, a daughter, Hope Williams-Bowie (Eric) of Dallas, TX, 2 grandchildren, Laylah and Breanna, 1 great-grandchild Paxton and her last surviving sibling, her sister Bobbie Hargrove of Fort Worth, TX and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Nell also found herself fortunate to have many lifelong friends, including 3 very special people that she loved and adored just like family: Barbara Wilkerson (Joe), Benny Thompson and Carol Proctor (Reginal).
