Melvin Meyers

Melvin “Quarterback” Meyers (79) was born August 7, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana. On September 29, 2019, the Lord called him home.

Melvin was the son of Marie Hudson and Wilfred Meyers. The family moved to Dallas, Texas when he was 7. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School (Dallas) where he  excelled in academics and football. Upon completing high school, he attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne on a football scholarship.

On September 8, 1961, he married the homecoming queen, his high school sweetheart, Catherine  Elizabeth Pyburn.

Although he gave his life to Christ at an early age; he rededicated his life to Christ and joined New Mount Gilead Baptist Church where he became an active member working with the Youth Department.

Preceding Melvin in death were his parents, Marie Brown, Wilfred Meyers and his loving wife of 58 years Catherine Elizabeth Meyers

Melvin leaves to cherish precious memories, two sons Melvin Christopher Meyers, Ollie Lee Meyers (Charlotte); three daughters Catherine Marie Meyers, Bertha Diane Givens (Clint), Cheryl Albright and sister Marion Booth. He also leaves nine grandchildren Brianna and Haley (Bertha), Jonathan, Allison, Oliva, and Matthew (Ollie), Chris, Jeff and Steven (Cheryl), loving great-grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many extended family and friends.
