Ira King

March 2, 1951 — March 17, 2021

Ira Jewel King was born on March 2, 1951 in San Augustine, Texas to the parents of E.D. and Genese Tanner-Greer.  She was 8 of 11 children born to this union.

After graduating from Lincoln High School of San Augustine, Texas in 1969, Ira moved to Dallas and attended El Centro College to pursue studies in nursing.  She completed her professional training and worked as a Phlebotomist for over 30 years.

She married her husband Michael Wayne King who preceded her in death on January 28, 2014. From this union, two children were born Tanorra Shanelle and Ewell Dion King.

Ira was baptized and a dedicated member of Cliff View Church of Christ until her ailment. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.  She loved the church where she found refuge in singing and serving others were her passions.

She loved her family and lived a full and warm life, filled with joy, happiness, and kindness.  Ira was a fun-loving person who never met a stranger and was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Cabbage." Her loving spirit will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

In obedience to God’s divine will, she departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, March 17, 2021.  She was preceded in death by her parents and older siblings Annie Pearl Greer, Elva Greer, Shirley Greer-Peterson, and David Greer.

Precious memories of Ira will be cherished by her two children: Tanorra Pearson (Andre) of Glenn Heights, Texas and Dion King of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandson: Austen Pearson; two brothers: John Greer (Stella) of Dallas, Texas and Eddie Greer (Debra) of San Augustine, Texas; four sisters: Roene Cole (James) and Etheria Wilder both of Dallas, Texas; Margaret Anthony of Nacogdoches, Texas and Margie Borders (Michael) of Humble, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends.
