Deacon Maurice Dotson

October 9, 1922 — October 21, 2020

Dallas

Maurice Dotson, Sr., fondly known by many as “Pappy” was born in Dallas, Texas to the union of Corbett Dotson and Maria Hickman Dotson on October 9, 1922.  He attended Dunbar High School.  At the age of 18 he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Dallas, Texas.

In 1950 he united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Mae Jefferson and to this union three children were born.

He was employed with Sherwin-Williams Paint Company and retired after twenty-five years.  After retirement he remained in the workforce working as a Caterer and was famously known for his brisket and peach cobbler.  He also served as a Custodian at his beloved Good Street Baptist Church.

Maurice’s Christian foundation was formed at an early age.  He was a member of Good Street Baptist Church for sixty-plus years where he served as a Deacon and chaired Wednesday night prayer service. He was also active and faithful in other church ministries.

On October 21, 2020, God called his faithful servant home to eternal rest.  He is preceded in death by his parents Corbett and Maria Dotson, wife Dorothy Mae Dotson, son Maurice Dotson, Jr., and daughters Wanda Nell Dotson, Janice Henderson and Dorothy Jean Dixon.

He leaves to cherish his memories three devoted and loving children, Charles Henry Dotson, Sr. (Denise) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Rhonda Faye Dotson of Los Angles, California, Michael Lynn Dotson, Sr. (Shelia) of Dallas, Texas, daughters Zenobia Lipscomb and Sandra Stinson of Dallas, Texas;  twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren; dear and devoted friends Arizona Bryant and Henry Williams, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
