Rev. Wesley Sims

February 11, 1921 — March 16, 2013

Rev. Wesley Simon Sims, Jr., also known as ?Dub? by many, was born in Parsons, Kansas to the parentage of Wesley and Rosa Sims on February 11, 1921.

He began his early education in Lawrence, Kansas and went on to further his education at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky. He served in the United States Army during WWII, where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Christine Sims, who preceded him in death in 2007.

He was called to the ministry in Lawrence, Kansas in 1950 and served over 40 years in the Disciples of Christ Christian Church in Kansas, Missouri, and Texas. He was interim pastor at Denley Drive Christian Church for a short time before his retirement, and has been pastor emeritus at ?The Way, The Truth & The Life Christian Church? (formerly Denley Drive Christian Church) until he retired.

He also worked as a Recreation Director for the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department for  17 years. He was a pioneer in the civil rights movement in Austin, Texas, and a member of ACORN.

Rev. Sims was a dedicated pastor, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.

He departed this life on March 16, 2013.

He leaves to celebrate his homegoing:  sons -  Wesley G. Sims, Henderson, NV; Ronald  Sims (Ruby), Houston, TX; Timothy Sims (Willie Mae), Dallas, TX; daughters - Janice Stewart, Creedmore, NC; Barbara Wilson (Derek), Irving, TX; Patricia Major, Dallas, TX; Roberta ?Bebe? Kay (Manuel), Cedar Hill, TX; Alberta Sims, Dallas, TX; and Deborah Sims, Dallas, TX; two brothers - James Sims, Bowie, MD; John Sims, Chattanooga, TN; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.
