Mrs. Vernia Lee Crayton Devereaux was born July 19, 1934 in Frankston, Texas to the parents of Colonel John Scott and Gracie Ann Johnson Crayton. God blessed this union with 11 children. Vernia Lee was 10th in succession.
She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age along with her 3 children at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. After the separtion of Mt. Carmel, she was a chartered member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful member and participated in several ministries as the usher board, women's ministry, Sunday school secretary and evangelism ministry. After several years, she moved her membership to the Pleasant Grove Community Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful member for the last 20 years.
Mrs. Vernia later married A.L. Devereaux. She was a devoted and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and a caring great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, singing hymns and quoting scriptures. Her husband, A.L. Devereaux preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Three children, Vivian L. McLaurin (Donald) of Dayton, Ohio, Keetia P. Harris of Mesquite, Texas, Don E. Crayton (Wanda) of Lancaster, Texas; six grandchildren, Karma McLaurin, Dulani McLaurin, Erika Crayton, Don E. Crayton, Jr., Jessica Williams, Roderick Ynobe Harris, II; great grandchildren, India, Emyah, Jamilla, Jamyrah, Erial; one brother, Willie Crayton of Los Vegas, Nevada; one sister, Georgia Reddic of Dallas, Texas and a host of dearly beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends
