Obituary

Velma Lee Andrews, 83, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Velma was born on September 19, 1942, in Linden, Texas, to the late Mable R. Shepheard and Henry W. Coleman. She was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and her oldest daughter, Juanita “Nay” Andrews. She is survived by her younger brother, Albert Coleman of Linden, Texas.

At the age of 18, Velma moved to Dallas, Texas, where she married R.D. Andrews and began building a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.

Velma dedicated many years of service working at a daycare center, UT Southwestern, and Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she worked faithfully for 25 years before retiring.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four children: R.L. Andrews, Anita Andrews, Yolanda Richardson, and Darlene Andrews.

Velma was also blessed with eight grandchildren: Lanita Andrews, Kenneth Andrews, Marcus Andrews, Willis Andrews, Nina Winfrey, Winston Richardson Jr., Sharhonda Andrews, and DeAnn Richardson. She also leaves behind 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, close family members, and dear friends.

Velma will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
