Thomas Earl Mayfield, Sr. was born to the late Willie Lee and Maggie Lee Mayfield in Sulphur Springs, Texas on December 4, 1952. He was the third child of ten children. In his early years, Thomas (Tom) became a member of Brocks Chapel United Methodist Church in Quitman, Texas. He was educated in the Mineola Public School District attending McFarland Elementary and Mineola High School. While in high school, Tom played football for two years and ran track for three years.
After graduating from high school, Tom enrolled in Tyler Junior College (TJC). While attending TJC he was drafted into the army and was stationed in Seoul, South Korea. Tom served in the army for three years, and then served in the National Guard for two years.
Continuing his education, Tom attended Prairie View A&M and East Texas State University (ETSU). At ETSU he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Using his business training, Tom began managing McDonald’s Restaurants in the Dallas, Texas area. It was there that he met and married Millie Ann (Kie) Mayfield. To this union were two children, one son and one daughter.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Willie Lee and Maggie Lee Mayfield; his father-in-law Willie Ed Kie, Jr; his mother-in-law Annie Lou Walker-Kie; one sister: Alfreda Mayfield Johnson; one brother: Harvey Lane Mayfield.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 41 years, Millie Ann Mayfield; one son, Thomas Earl Mayfield, Jr (T.J.); one daughter, Ke-Airrah Samajze Mayfield (KiKi); one granddaughter, Ka-Miah Denyse Hymes (Miah) (all in Dallas, TX); three brothers: Willie A. Mayfield (Mamie – Tyler, TX), Dorian L. Mayfield (Dallas, TX), Roger D. Mayfield (Cynthia – Chandler, TX); four sisters: Erma J. Nelson (Quitman, TX), Yolauda Mayfield (Dallas, TX), Glenda Mayfield (Tyler, TX), Winifred Mayfield (Quitman, TX); three sister-in-laws: Barbie Mitchell (Michael), Janice Kie (Leon), Elizabeth Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, many family, friends and loved ones.
