March 30, 1938 — November 16, 2022

Shirley Ruth Johnson was born March 30, 1938, in Smith County, Texas, and passed on November 16,2022 in Dallas, Texas. She was born to the parentage of Clifford Roberson, Sr. and Clenzie Roberson. She was the eighth child of eight children born to this union, four sisters and four brothers.

Shirley grew up in Troup, TX. with her large family on a farm. She learned the importance of hard work as everybody pitched in to help with the farm. However, there was always fun and adventures being had with her brothers and sisters, extended family and friends. Shirley graduated from Central High School in Troup.

Keeping in

tradition of the large family, Shirley gave birth to four children while in Troup; Dewye, Lewye, Wanda, and Ron. She moved her family to Dallas in the early sixties. She gave birth to her last child Fred once settled in Dallas. She had several brothers and sisters that had moved to the Dallas area, so there was always lots of family gatherings and good times.

Shirley worked for the Horton family in Dallas for 40 years. This was more than a job as she became part of their family. She was a companion to Mrs. Horton in her later years, and always maintained her ties with the family.

Always quick with a joke and a smile, she endeared herself to those who knew her. She was kind to people and willing to help out however she could. Shirley could be a stern woman when the situation called for it, and yet was a gentle soul. Her strength is evidenced in the family she raised on her own.

Shirley took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard and flowers. Her green thumb was reflected in her roses, zinnias, moonflowers, oleander, lemon trees, wisteria, and her numerous hibiscuses. Her other love was the Dallas Cowboys. She was a dedicated fan through the ups and downs. You could always count on her to have her Cowboys flag out on game days and be yelling at the TV during the game.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers Fulton Roberson, Clifford Roberson Sr., Douglas Roberson, Ira Roberson, sisters Arlene Roberson, Altha Mae Wilkins, Bibbie Walker, and one son, Ron Johnson.
