Celebrating the Life of Shannell Laterrianna Johns

Shannell Laterrianna Johns was born on February 23, 1997, in Dallas, Texas, to Smiley Johns III and Tyra E. Cole-Howard (Townsend Howard). As the eldest child and only daughter, she brought immeasurable joy, hope, and love to her family from the very beginning.

Shannell was a remarkable young woman whose radiant smile and infectious sense of humor could brighten any room. She possessed a compassionate heart, loved fiercely, and was unwavering in her devotion to her family, friends, and the animals she adored. Through every triumph and every challenge, she remained resilient and was known for standing up for what she believed in with courage and conviction.

From an early age, Shannell dreamed big. An honor roll student throughout her school years, she excelled both academically and athletically. She proudly served as captain of the volleyball team, was a cheerleader, and played on the basketball team. Her ambitions evolved over the years, from aspiring to become a judge, to a lawyer, and later a physical therapist. After graduating from Seagoville High School in 2015, she earned an academic scholarship to Prairie View A&M University, where she pursued her education with determination. Although life’s journey took an unexpected turn, her dreams, perseverance, and strength continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.

Shannell was preceded in death by her grandparents, Smiley Johns Jr., Elrige Cole Jr., and Shirley Ann Cole.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to be treasured by her mother, Tyra Howard; her stepfather, Townsend Howard; her father, Smiley Johns III; her grandmother, Maxine Henderson; her brother, Christian Collins; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love, kindness, and unwavering spirit.

Though her time with us was far too short, Shannell’s kindness, laughter, strength, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and love—a light that will never fade. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
