It has been told on a cold September morning in Calvert, Texas, a longtime future school teacher Ms. Abertine Roberson gave birth to a "lively" son, Russell. He worked for Greyhound for many years. Later, he moved to Austin and worked for the City of Austin for 17 years. A few years later, he moved back to Dallas to assist his mother with the care of her father until his death. In his return to Dallas, he was hired by the City of Dallas. He worked there for 25 years.
Russell was always an active member in church since being baptized at age 14. In Austin, he was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church for around 20 years. In Dallas, he was a member of the mass choir several years at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Presently, he was a member of the "Exciting" Ervay Cedar Missionary Baptist Church until his health declined. For most of his many years at Ervay Cedar, he was a member of the Mass Choir, and Male Chorus. He also served many years as a bus driver and Friday Prayer leader at noon.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Abertine Canady. Thank God for his life and years.
He is survived by a daughter, Ericka Johnson, Houston, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Adrian and Cortney Johnson plus a great grandchild, Charon Lewis; many friends and acquaintances; friend, Rev. Ezra Johnson, devoted friend, Ms. Ivie Whiting and a host of other relatives and friends.
