Raford Wright

July 4, 1944 — December 22, 2022

Dallas

Raford “Rafus” Lee Wright, 78 of Dallas, Texas was called home on Thursday, December 22, 2022.

He was born on July 4, 1944, to the parents of Roosevelt and Lillie Morgan Wright. As a child Rafus attended Union Primitive Baptist Church. Rafus is his lifelong nickname. The only name most people know him by so I guess we can say Raford is his nickname.

He attended Furney-Richardson School but later graduated from Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1962.

Rafus married Maudie Wright and they lived in Dallas, TX. He worked for the paper mill and was later employed with LTV Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie, TX. He remained employed there operating machines as a chemical processor until he retired. He attended Ford Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Sandra Haynes.

Rafus was a rancher with a passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, taking care of his cows, hunting squirrels and then making some good ole squirrel dumplings.  This was something he passed down to his sons, grandsons and nephews.

He was adamant about bringing family and friends together for reunions at the family house in Mexia. Seeing everyone together and having that time to fellowship was very important. This brought him great joy. This did come with a disclaimer to be careful sitting down domino table with him.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Maudie Wright of Dallas, TX; sons Rodney Wright and Rafus Bernard Wright of Dallas, TX, Thomas Wright (Felicia) of Grand Prairie, TX; daughter Charlotte Wright of Mesquite, TX; brother Willie George Wright of Mexia, TX; sisters Annie Henderson of Teague, TX, Alberta Allen (Margie), Lillie Empy and Irene Arrington all of Dallas, TX; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Roosevelt and Lillie Morgan Wright, his sister Nellie Ruth Person, his brother Herbert Wright and an infant brother Maurice Wright.
