Obituary

Patricia Chase-Hargraves was born on March 10, 1953 to James and Charlene Washington in Los Angeles California.  Patricia grew up in a loving and God-fearing home with her parents and siblings.  She is the youngest of five daughters.  Her family later moved to Fort Worth Texas in 1955 where she attended the Fort Worth Independent School District.  After graduation from High School, she met the love of her life – Dwain Chase (deceased) whom she married and they parented a daughter, Amber Denise.  After her divorce to Dwain she again married, Archie Hargraves (deceased) of Chicago Illinois.

“Pat” as she is affectionately known had a love for knowledge in all aspects, whether it was from a book, magazine, the radio/TV or even the internet.  Pat also had a passion for fashion, beauty, travel and food. Prior to her illness, she involved herself in several charitable endeavors and started sewing as a hobby.  After her divorce she further pursued sewing as an additional means of financial support for herself and her daughter.   Along with sewing she took up knitting and crocheting.  It was nothing for her to see a design and duplicate it or make it her own.

However, in November 2005, she suffered complications from her diabetes and had to be placed in a nursing facility where she began years of rehabilitation.  October 2008 she was able to return to being self sufficient and moved to her own place whereby she again took up her hobbies of sewing, knitting and crocheting.  Even though her health had failed, she did not let this stop her from enjoying life and continue to bring joy and laughter to her daughter and grandchildren.

Prior to her debilitated illness, she enjoyed creating hats, caps, ear muffs and scarves.  Also, she crocheted bookmarks, crosses and other intricate designs.  Her specialty was making Afghans – styles depicting baby designs as well as other unique designs.

She had a love for the creative DIVAS (Divine Inspired Victorious Anointed Sisters) wares and collected anything with this décor which were displayed throughout her home.

On September 10, 2022, God knew her pain was great, and He promised He would never place more on her than she could bear.  He instructed the angels to prepare the red carpet for her and whispered in her ear at 4:48 p.m., “It is time to come home my daughter, “so she answered yes, and left quietly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Charlene Washington, husbands, Dwain Chase and Archie Hargraves and one sister, Gwendolyn Washington Chadwick and three brother-in-laws, Edmund Washington, Adolphus Chadwick and Joe Gilliam.

She leaves behind to cherish her beautiful memories: her daughter, Amber Denise Love and Daughter in law, Elena Louise Love; sisters, Nia Washington-Wagner, Carolyn Washington and Mattie Gilliam; grandchildren, Bria Lewis, Vivian Klarke Cox and Peyton Cox and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
