Maybell Cooks

June 25, 1927 — April 29, 2025

Maybell Franklin Cooks was born to the late Charlie Franklin and Lucille Tucker Bateman on June 25, 1927. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Maybell grew up in East Texas in Wills Point. She received her education in the Van Zandt County School District. In Wills Point, TX is where she met Claude Cooks Jr. They were married in 1940, and she was his devoted wife until he departed this life in 2001. Claude Jr and Maybell had 11 children.

Later in life, while being a devoted wife and mother, she decided to become a Dental Assistant and got a job in a Dentist office working for Dr. Wilson. She worked there for over 10 years. After Dr. Wilson closed his office, she decided to stay home and tend to her grandchildren. She was the true definition of a grandmother in every way. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her life. She was a praying, steadfast but firm little lady who was full of love to everyone she met. Her cooking on the holidays always brought all of her family and friends together.

Maybell received Christ at an early age. When the family moved to Dallas, they became members of New Solomon Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor B. F. Thompson. She was a faithful and devoted member for over 40 years until her health failed, and she was no longer able to attend.

Maybell was preceded in death by her Parents, Charlie Franklin and Lucille Tucker Bateman, her spouse, Claude Cooks Jr, her sister, Artellia Ramey Franklin, her brother, Sammy Jo Ramey, her niece, Mary Jewel Ramey, her sons, Grady Lee Cooks, J. C. Cooks, Bobby Ray Cooks, David Lee Cooks and Billy Ray Cooks, her sons-in-law, Arthur Ray Sterling and Willie Wilmore and great- grandson, Jace Jaxon Waters.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sister, Christine Tubbs, her loving children, Ruby Jewel Sterling, Bernice Cooks (Lonnie), Betty Cooks, Larry Cooks, Anthony Cooks (Victoria), Darrell Cooks (Johnnie) and Kathy Cooks, her daughter-in-Love, Lisa Lucas. her grandchildren, Lindale Cooks, Robert Sterling, Sheila Renfro, James Renfro(Sherry), Felicia Sanders(Vince), Datanya Cooks, Tory Cooks, Marcus Cooks, Lolitha Cooks(Lonell), Caternia (Tina) Mcdade, Bobby Brown(Jennifer), Gary Cooks, Clarence Cooks, Jazmon Cooks, Wausheka Kinney, Lacresha Cooks and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives and close family friends.
