OBITUARY  

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.”     II Timothy 4: 7-8a - KJV

Mrs. Lola Mae (Mitchell) Henson was born to the late Sam and Bessie Mitchell in Dallas, Texas on April 25, 1932. She loved her dear and loving parents. Mrs. Lola grew up in Dallas, TX with six brothers and three sisters. She attended and graduated from the Dallas Independent School District.  Mrs. Lola accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age at North Park Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and served faithfully.

She moved to San Bernardino, CA as a young adult and this became her home away from home.

Soon she joined fellowship with New Hope COGIC and served faithfully until her health declined. 

Mrs. Lola met and married the love of her life, Lawerence T, Henson in 1975. They had a beautiful marriage until he departed this life in 1997.

Her love for fashion and being a trend setter was her passion and profession. She retired from retail after many years of service. Mrs. Lola’s smile and warm spirit would light up the room. She loved serving and encouraging others in her family, community, church, and work.

In her last season of life, due to her illness she moved back home to Dallas. TX under the care of family in 2016. Mrs. Lola had a rich and full life. At almost 92 years old, she was the last surviving sibling. She passed peacefully in her sleep on April 3, 2024, at Mayberry Gardens – Grand Prairie.

“As God called, she answered singing praises with a Yes Lord!”

Mrs. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and three sisters.

She leaves to cherish her love and memories: Two Sister-In-Laws: Ada V. Mitchell and Jean Mitchell.

Nieces:  Rubye Rolfe, Rosalind Crump, Marlene Nichols; Nephew:  Chester Mitchell Jr.

A host of other nieces and nephews; great & great-great nieces and nephews; host of other family members and friends in CA & TX.
