Dallas

Lois Wayne Lewis Gilder was born August 14, 1933, to the late Cleo Albert Lewis and the late Tommie Lee Beale, in Dallas, Texas, both preceded her in death.

She dedicated her life to God at an early age when she joined Boll Street C.M.E. Church (Now Cedar Crest Cathedral C.M.E.). She joined Inspiring Body of Christ Church and continued her walk as a strong woman of God until her death.

Lois graduated Booker T. Washington High School, Dallas, TX. and attended Prairie View A & M University, receiving her Registered Nurse certification.

Upon graduating from college, Lois met and married Sam Gilder, Jr.

Lois believed in helping people and had a passion for the nursing profession. At St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, TX, she was promoted as the first Black Head Nurse of the Maternity Ward. She served in various nursing capacities, for over 25 years. She also worked as an Occupational Health Nurse at Texas Instruments, until her retirement.
