Lamont “Pal” Shields, the beloved youngest son of the late Johnny Shields and Irvalene “Cookie” Shields, was born on December 30, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He was raised with love and laughter alongside his siblings—Paulette Yvonne Shields-Thompson, Robert Shields, and Reginald Shields. He was preceded in death by his dear sister, Vickie Shields-Easley, and cherished niece, Shannon Shields.
A proud alumnus of South Oak Cliff High School, Lamont was known for his beautiful voice as a member of the school choir and his sharp intellect, which shone through in his love for chess. His passion for music, strategic mind, and signature sense of humor made him unforgettable to all who crossed his path.
Lamont had an unmatched love for Cadillacs and was often spotted cruising the streets of Arlington in his prized rides. Equally passionate about cooking, he was a master behind the grill and stove—his legendary BBQ and inventive meals brought joy to countless family gatherings and special occasions.
At the heart of Lamont’s world was his lifelong partner, Iris Michelle Jackson, lovingly known as “Chell.” Together, they built a life grounded in love and family, raising two daughters, Alexis Shields and I’Shanique Calhoun, and welcoming a bonus son, Brandon Calhoun. He found tremendous pride and happiness in his role as “Papa” to his grandsons, Braydon and Bryce Calhoun.
Lamont’s circle of love extended far and wide. He is lovingly remembered by his nieces Denise Robinson, Joshlynn Shields, Andria Chung, Quanika “Shaun” Stephens, and Morgan Shields; his nephews Robert Shields Jr., Joshua Shields, Reginald Shields Jr., and Quincy Jones Sr.; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends.
Lamont will be remembered for his kindness, his booming laughter, his unshakable loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the many hearts he touched, and his spirit will continue to be a guiding light for those who loved him.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
