Kay Frances Ross Fletcher was born on July 25, 1944, to the union of Isaac and Ethalena Ross in a small town in Rusk County, Texas. She was raised in Henderson, Texas, where she accepted Christ at an early age. Even as a child, Kay displayed a joyful and willing spirit, actively participating in church functions and serving with pride.
Kay attended Mizner Elementary School and later Henderson High School through the 11th grade. Following her family’s move to Kansas City, Missouri, she completed her education at Central Senior High School.
Kay met and married Joe Fletcher, and from this union, they were blessed with four beautiful children: Mickey Lynn Fletcher, Rickey Lynn Fletcher, Kenneth Fletcher, and Frances Renae Fletcher. Kay was a devoted mother who poured love, strength, and guidance into her family.
While raising her children, Kay worked at Rival Manufacturing Company and Western Electric in Kansas City. After returning to Texas, she discovered her true calling in the healthcare field, where she served faithfully in nursing. Kay had a heart for helping others and viewed her work not just as a job, but as a ministry. She later worked as a cashier at Walmart for 11 years, continuing to serve people with the same warmth and kindness that defined her life. She also was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan—she didn’t play about her “Boys” and stood by them no matter what.
Kay remained deeply rooted in her faith. She served wholeheartedly under the leadership of Pastor Victor Beck until relocating to Denver, Colorado. While in Denver, she united with True Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Shannon J. Warren, where her faith and service continued to flourish.
In her later years, Kay found joy in creating tutus, a hobby that reflected her love for bringing happiness to others and celebrating life’s simple pleasures.
Kay leaves to cherish her precious memories a loving family: her children, Mickey Lynn Fletcher (Angela), of Thornton, Colorado; Rickey Lynn Fletcher (Rolonda), of Kansas City, Missouri; Kenneth Fletcher (Tara), of Denver, Colorado; and Frances Renae Fletcher, of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Della Butler and Mordine Weathers, both of Dallas, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives, and dear friends.
