Born in Terrell, Texas, James Earl Rabon was the son of Eulice C. Rabon and Lila B. Smith Rabon. He was the oldest of ten children. He attended Terrell Public Schools and graduated from W. H. Burnett High School in Terrell.
At an early age, James united with Bethlehem Baptist Church in Terrell. He was employed with IBM Corporation for 24 years.
James married Jean E. Taylor on July 14, 1970. No children were born to this union.
He was preceded in his homecoming by father, Eulice; brothers, Fred and Maurice Rabon and stepson, Ronnie D. Taylor.
