Irma Jean Wilson (Davis), affectionately known by her siblings and relatives as “Sister,” was born to Homer and Effie Harris Davis on August 13, 1947. She was the 11th of 13 children.

She received her early education at Lincoln Elementary School and later graduated from Lincoln High school in 1966 in Ruston, LA. After graduating, Jean went on to attend Grambling College, currently Grambling State University, where she earned her associate's degree and worked in the nursing field for a short time before accepting an accounting role with Ford Motor Company. After moving to Dallas, TX in the early 70s, Jean attended Bishop College to further her studies while continuing her career in the accounting field.

Jean met the love of her life, Dayton “D.W.” Wilson, in Ruston, Louisiana. They were married in the summer of 1970 and shared many happy years together, building a life in Dallas and raising their two children, Scotty and Tonya. They attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where Jean served on the usher board for over 30 years, winning Usher of the Year multiple times.

Jean's capacity for love reached far beyond her immediate family. Though she was the devoted mother of Scotty and Tonya, she also became a cherished mother figure to many of their friends. With thoughtful advice, genuine care, and a welcoming spirit, she made her home a place where everyone felt they belonged. Even when her children were away, friends continued to stop by for fellowship, laughter, and some of Jean's famous hot-water cornbread, greens, and sweet potatoes. She often spoke fondly of her shared birthday tradition with Fred, enjoying a cup of coffee together each year. Jean had a special gift for bringing people together, and her kitchen was the heart of countless gatherings. Family and friends alike will remember her for the delicious meals she prepared, the conversations shared around her table, and the love that filled her home.

Her family and friends meant the world to her. She occasionally went back home to Ruston and also traveled to Oakland, CA to check-in on loved ones and spend time with her sisters, nieces and nephews. She always looked forward to phone calls and treasured the special bonds she shared with her dear friends Retha, Marion, Ruby, Priscilla, and Virginia; her beloved church friends, Sis. Bolden, Sis. McCoo, and Sis. Miles; and her Mt. Zion church family, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Their friendship, laughter, and companionship brought her great joy throughout the years. Jean also loved the arts– she would often enjoy live music, and stage plays with one of her dearest friends, Gerri, who preceded her in her earthly departure. In her later years, Jean began traveling both domestically and internationally with her daughter-in-love, Sjonna. She often reminisced about their adventures in Las Vegas, Denver, Ireland, and Spain. One of her fondest travel memories was her cooking class in Madrid.

Above all, her faith in God was the foundation of her life. She remained steadfast in that faith until her final breath, finding strength, comfort, and peace in the Lord throughout her life's journey.

Preceding Jean in her reunion with Christ are her husband, Dayton; her parents, Homer and Effie; and seven siblings.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her devoted and beloved children, Scotty and Tonya; three adored grandchildren, Shanequa (Daquinn), Brittany, and Madison; three treasured great-grandchildren, Sharne, Sheridan, and Manny; four siblings, Luvenia, Louise “Mott”, Sarah, Emmitt; her daughter-in-love, Sjonna; and a host of relatives and dear friends.

Her kindness, warmth, devotion, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
