Freddie Washington

February 14, 1922 — February 10, 2012

Bro. Freddie Douglas Washington was born February 14, 1922 in Plano, Texas to the parentage of Arthur and Roberta Washington. He attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.

He met and married the woman whom he proclaimed would be his wife upon meeting her for the first time; Annie Mae Hunn of Dallas, Texas.  To this union two children were born; Sheila Elaine and Roberta Lynne.

Early in life he accepted Christ and united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Plano Texas where his father was a deacon.  In 1950, after marrying Annie Mae, he united with St. James A.M.E. Temple.   In 1952 he joined Greater Garth A.M.E. Church; where he remained an ever-present and faithful member until his health prevented him from doing so. He has served in many ministries including usher board, choir, and as Steward Pro-tem.

He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years Annie Mae Washington, grandson David Brown Jr., his parents Arthur and Roberta, 2 brothers: George and James Washington; 4 sisters: Bessie Griggs, Carrie Sims, Carey Washington, and Bell Zora Newton. He is survived by his daughters Sheila Elaine Young (Lee) and Roberta Lynne Blakemore (Ronald); three grandchildren, Candace Thompson, Elijah Blakemore, and Kianna Blakemore; one great-grandson Malachi Brown; brother-in-law, Walter Russell, Jr.(Shirley). He also leaves a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all whom he loved very dearly.

Visitation: 9-6pm Friday, February 17, 2012 at Lincoln Funeral Home.

Celebration Service: 11am Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Greater Garth Chapel A.M.E. Church 2828 Carpenter St. Dallas, Texas 75215.
