Douglas Williams, Sr. was born on February 6, 1922 to the parentage
 
 of Roosevelt and Mendoza Sims Williams. He is the oldest of three
 
 children. He was reared by his Christian stepmother Emma Williams
 
 and his daddy Roosevelt.
 
 
 He was preceded in death by his parents,
 
 Roosevelt, Mendoza, and Emma Williams. His first wife, LaVaughn
 
 Williams; one sister, Willie Jean Campbell, Brother Henry Moore and
 
 son, Douglas Williams, Jr.
 
 
 In 1941, he graduated from Teague high school, where he excelled in
 
 basketball and art. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States
 
 Army. After a short tour of duty, he received an honorable discharge
 
 from the army and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he united with
 
 Bethany Baptist Church and was ordained to preach the gospel.
 
 
 As he journeyed to downtown Cleveland, Ohio, he was led by the
 
 Holy Spirit to get off the bus, he witnessed a group of people praising
 
 God. He later was baptized at the Cedar Grove S.D.A. Church.
 
 He moved to Dallas, Texas, where he joined City Temple SDA Church
 
 and was ordained as Head Elder under the leadership of Elder Dudley
 
 and Elder Cox. He had a vision for a new church in Corsicana and
 
 started a building fund. As a result, Bethel Church was completed in
 
 January , 1983. Elder Williams had a love for young people and a love
 
 for winning souls to Christ. He organized the first Pathfinder Club in the
 
 Southwest Region Conference. He loved the church and gave of his
 
 time, talents, and his resources.
 
 
 He was employed at Hillcrest State Bank and later employed by
 
 Dallas Independent School District for Twenty five years as a Supervisor.
 
 He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife, LaVerne Williams
 
 of forty-seven years; sons, Gregory Williams (Shirley), Graylon Williams
 
 (Annice), Marcus Williams and T.Wayne of Dallas, TX; daughters,
 
 Paulette Busby (Jessie), Dallas, TX, Phillis Bennett, Cedar Hill, TX,
 
 Chandra Ballatt (Dr. Sheldon, Ph.D), Desoto, TX, Shirley Clarkson,
 
 Desoto, TX, Carmen Herring (Dr. Theodore M.D.) of Houston, TX; one
 
 sister, Margaret Williams, Dallas, TX; eleven grandchildren, twelve great
 
 grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces,
 
 nephews, other relatives and friends.
