Carrie Gipson

April 4, 1937 — September 18, 2019

Carrie Lee Gipson, a longtime resident of Dallas, Texas died Wednesday the eighteenth of September at Methodist hospital. Carrie was born in Calvert, Texas on April 4, 1937 to Cleophus and Elizabeth Miller. She was the oldest child and attended the Bethlehem school in Hammond, Texas and The School for the Deaf. She was baptized at an early age.

Carrie later moved to Mart, Texas where she continued to learn sign language. She became a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Later, she moved to Waco, Texas and then decided to move and settle in Dallas, Texas. In January 1966, she married her husband James Gipson, a deaf mute of "52 Blessed Years! He was very instrumental in teaching her to "sign" also.

Carrie became a member of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. G. T. Thomas, where she attended church as often as she could, knowing and trusting God as her Father.

Carrie loved cooking for her family and friends, even strangers. She was well known in the community and known for her “Famous Fried Chicken!”

Carrie was blessed to be a part of a large loving family of thirteen:

Willisana (Willie) Bowers, Cleophus (Frances) Miller, Leodia (Anita) Miller, Irene (Bobby) Johnson, Hairl Lee Miller, L.J. (Eva) Miller, Henrietta (Harry) Monroe, Loretta (John) Mitchell), Lorbeth (Robert) Walker, Glory (Michael) Thomas, Sharon (Nolen) Jones, Donald (Dawna) Horton, Lelia Rhynes.

Carrie played a valuable role in the life of her nieces and nephews: Sandra Henry, Tiffany Morris, Charles Morris, Seymour Morris and Dominique Washington, they brought joy to her heart. She and her husband James taught them sign language in order to communicate with each other, and other deaf mutes as well.

Left to cherish her memory: one aunt, (Caroline Edwards) from Calvert, Texas her siblings, in-laws and a host of relatives and friends.

To God be the Glory!
