Betty Jean Rockwell

November 5, 1943 — May 3, 2025

HER STORY

Betty Jean Rockwell lived a life marked by a quiet strength and devotion to God, church, and her family. She was born in Panola County, Texas, on November 5, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Leo Harris and Emogene Harris-Wilson. She was a Graduate of Lincoln High School, Studied at Draughon School of Business, and received a BA from Foster College (formerly Southern Bible Institute & College) in Biblical Studies. Betty once had dreams of working for NASA. She came as close as she could as a quality assurance inspector for space shuttle parts at Rockwell International and others until her retirement. Betty was a faithful member of Fellowship of Worship Bible Church. She was not loud in her faith, but she was unwavering. She loved being a member of the church and was always willing to work where needed.

Betty had a passion for painting and art, especially watercolors. Her art spoke words that didn’t have to be said. She painted birds, botanicals, folk scenes, and hand-painted notes on bookmarks and greeting cards. She handed out her beautiful paintings to many people and they touched us and left an indelible mark on our lives and spirit.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life -Pablo Picasso” Betty left her earthly body and went to her Heavenly home on May 3, 2025. She was preceded in death by her late husband James Rockwell Sr., parents Leo Harris and Emogene Harris-Wilson; brother, Arthur Lee Harris; sister, Connie Faye Harris.

She leaves to cherish her memories; Sisters, Brenda and Terri; and adopted Sister, Ester; Daughter, Jackie Rockwell; Sons, Timothy and Torrey Rockwell; Grand-children, Andrew, Kala, Tori, Tianna, Tim, Tyler, Victoria, Emogene, and Reva, Great Grandchildren, Ezra and Ella, and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
