Bettie Woods

Our Beloved Mother Bettie Lee Woods passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2021, at home after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. She was 76 years old.

She was born April 18, 1945, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, the youngest child of Johnny and Estelle (Reese) Woods.

She moved to Saginaw Michigan at the age of 2 and attended Saginaw Public Schools, including Arthur Eddy Junior High School and Saginaw High School. She was employed with the State of Michigan for more than 20 years before she retired in 1991.

She attended Corinthian Baptist Church in Saginaw for many years until she moved to Dallas Texas in 1997 and this is where she resided until her passing. She loved her family she was a wonderful, caring supportive mother and awesome grandmother.

During her lifetime she enjoyed reading, learning, helping anyone in need as much as possible, watching television, doing her word puzzles, raising her family, light gardening, being creative in a multitude of ways, giving great advice when asked, traveling and later in life she became quite tech savvy by learning how to navigate her way around computers, social media and other modern technology.

She is preceded in death by her parents Johnny & Estelle Woods, her two sisters Clara Brandon, Earline Darden-Davis and seven brothers Alton, Peter, Willie Guy, Theodore, Jimmy Louis, Joe and Johnny Woods and her grandson Delayne Houston and great grandson Keon’tay Houston.

She leaves behind her brother George Lee Woods of Dallas, her three children, Lonnell (Karla) Woods of San Antonio, Rhea Houston of Dallas and Eric Houston of Dallas and 11 grandchildren, Eric Houston Jr., Tahjae Houston and Dehja Houston who helped take care of her, Marcquis Houston, Deon’tay Houston, Jelayne Webster, Allante’ Jackson, Ashyia (Ray) Brewer, Tralon Woods, Kayla Woods, Lonnell Woods II and 25 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
