Mrs. Annie L. Gates was born to the late Charles Benjamin Rowell and Annie Corine Jackson on December 1, 1935 in Dallas, Texas.

She graduated from St. Peter’s Academy in Dallas, Texas. She married her soulmate “Billy” in 1964 and to this union of over 50 years, three daughters, Lisa, Juanita, & Elizabeth were born. She was a follower of Christ teachings from her early years and volunteered with children and others where her love and dedication to Christian principles were demonstrable.  She was a teacher’s right hand aide at Sudie L. Williams in Dallas and the West Dallas community at large.

“Mother Gates” as she was known by many, was highly favored amongst adults and children of all ages throughout greater Dallas. She wrote poetry, performed her handwritten speeches and was a righteous soul who quietly sponsored college students, fed the homeless and assisted in taking care of the afflicted in her beloved West Dallas community. The mission to teach and assist all who needed her was the ministry she found most comforting to her abilities.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A master at cards and dominoes. She was also an avid follower of sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Billy H. Gates, son-Michael M. Sims, brothers-Charles B. Rowell, Samuel H. Bell and three great-grandchildren-Zoey Stevens, Michael Jaran & Kennedi Jarae Sims.

Mother Gates leaves to cherish her loving daughters Lisa R. Sain (Maurice), Juanita L. Gates-Williams (Don), and Elizabeth A. Gates all of Dallas, TX; sister, Mrs. Willie Mae Hardeman of Dallas, TX.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Alene Davis of Dallas, TX; two  god-daughters, Sophia Graham and Qiana Williams of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
